Program: This 12-month paid fellowship, which runs from July 2024 through July 2025, is designed to provide fellows with an opportunity to gain insight into arts administration, sharpen their critical reading skills, and help shape our workshop and residency programs. The Reading Fellow’s responsibilities will include reading, voting, admitting, and awarding scholarships for various workshop programs and helping select our 2025 residents. Through this program, Fellows will also be given opportunities to enrich their own writing practices through online classes, lectures, and meetings with Tin House Books staff. The fellowship will culminate with a week-long writing residency at the 2025 Tin House Summer Workshop.
We will select 6-8 fellows across genres (fiction, nonfiction, poetry). Selected Fellows will not be eligible to apply for any 2024/2025 Workshop or Residential Programs.
Eligibility: This fellowship is open to any alum who attended a workshop or residency between 2020 and the 2024 Online Winter Workshop. It is a remote position.
Compensation: The Fellowship comes with the following:
- $5,000 Stipend
- $600 credit for Tin House Online Programs (Craft Intensives, Seminars, Lectures)
- Lecture Pass to the 2024 Winter Workshop
- Meeting with Tin House Books Editors
- A week-long residency at the 2025 Tin House Summer Workshop (this includes room & board, a lecture pass, and a $250 travel stipend).
Time Period: The Reading Fellowship begins in late July 2024 and concludes in July 2025 with a writing residency at our Summer Workshop (in Portland, Oregon). Fellows can expect to read an average of 10 hours a week, though there will be many reading breaks throughout the year. The tentative reading calendar is as follows:
