Program: This 12-month paid fellowship, which runs from July 2025 through July 2026, is designed to provide fellows with an opportunity to gain insight into arts administration, sharpen their critical reading skills, and help shape our workshop and residency programs. The Reading Fellow’s responsibilities will include reading, voting, admitting, and awarding scholarships for various workshop programs and helping select our 2026 residents. Through this program, Fellows will also be given opportunities to enrich their writing practices through online classes and lectures. The fellowship will culminate with a week-long writing residency at the 2026 Tin House Summer Workshop.

We will select five fellows across genres. 

Please note that selected Fellows are not eligible to apply for any 2025/2026 Workshop or Residential Programs. 

Eligibility: This fellowship is open to any alum who attended a workshop or residency between 2022 and the 2025 Online Winter Workshop. It is a remote position.

Compensation: The Fellowship comes with the following:

•  $5,000 Stipend
• $600 credit for Tin House Online Programs (Craft Intensives, Seminars, Lectures)
• Lecture Pass to the 2026 Winter Workshop
• A week-long residency at the 2026 Tin House Summer Workshop (this includes room & board and a $300 travel stipend).  

Time Period: The Reading Fellowship begins in late July 2025 and concludes in July 2026 with a writing residency at our Summer Workshop (in Portland, Oregon). Fellows can expect to read an average of 10 hours a week, though there will be many reading breaks throughout the year. The tentative reading calendar is as follows:

August 1st-August 30th: Reading

September 1st-15th: Break

September 15th-October 15th: Reading

September 15th-30th: Break

October 1st-October 31st: Reading

November 1st-November 10th : Break

November 11th-December 15th: Reading

December 16th-January 12th: Break

January 13th-March 14th: Reading

March 15th-April 7th: Break

April 8th-May 2nd: Reading

May 3rd-May 27th: Break

May 28th-June 13th: Reading

June 14th: Reading Ends

July TBD: Residency at Summer Workshop
